We have at last begun this next adventure in our life. We
have made it safely to the lovely Bodensee with few obstacles.
We drove out early in the morning to the Seattle airport.
After getting some exercise walking back and forth across the airport, we were
ready to meet some new friends and get on our flight. We met Jon and Sara at
the gate. We quickly became friends and looked forward to our travels together.
On the flight we were greeted with a free alcoholic beverage
(yay!), and we snoozed and counted down the hours until we were in Germany. We
were fascinated when we looked out the window to see the many lakes of northern
Quebec and Labrador reflecting in the moonlight.
We arrived in Frankfurt and went to our hostel to get some
much needed sleep. Early the next morning we got up and headed back to the
airport to the Bahnhof (train station). We got on a train to the main station
in Frankfurt. We needed to pick up our rental car in downtown Frankfurt, and we
had printed out a schedule of the trains we needed to take to get there.
Jordan ordered zwei kaffee and zwei bretzeln for breakfast
and was proud of his German (even though we are pretty sure the lady knew he
was English-speaking).
We decided that we didn’t want to waste time waiting for the
train on the schedule; instead we thought we could find one that left sooner
that went to the same destination. We hopped on a fancy looking train and got
comfortable while the train left the station. Unfortunately, we soon realized
that this train was an express train and would not be stopping anywhere near
where we needed to go. The friendly ticket checker directed us to get off at
the next stop and hop back on a train back to where we came from. Eventually we
ended up at the rental car company and were able to drive away in a VW Touran.
We cruised all the way down to the Bodensee, admiring the
luscious countryside and quaint villages. We were excited to try out these
autobahns and found ourselves cruising down the highway at 200 km.
The last week we have been getting to know a ton of
wonderful people from all over North America and some other parts of the world.
We get to live in a lovely apartment in a small German town with an orchard for
a backyard. There are famous bakeries and cafes within walking distance. We get
to admire a beautiful lake with mighty Alps peaking through the mist on the
other side. We have adorable wild hedgehogs for neighbours. Life is awesome.
Soooo good to hear! Look forward to reading more! Miss you guys
